Mirrow Lake Box

From: lorij31461 (lori@wcoil.com) | Date: 2006-03-07 19:01:40 UTC
Just found this group today. We found our first box this past Sunday.
Very exciting. My question is, we looked for the 2 boxes on the OSU
campus. One we found, the other we didn't. My daughter is an OSU
student, so she can easily search for the Mirror Lake Hollow box
again. Can anyone confirm this box is still in existence? I tried
contacting the placer and have not had a response.

Thanks,
Lori

Hiya Lori,

Welcome to letterboxing! I sent an email to girlguides
about the Mirror Lake Hollow box.

As a new letterboxer, I'd encourage you to join the
NewBoxers talk list at

Welcome to the addiction!!

There are a lot of new boxers in the Columbus/SE Ohio area thanks to the
recent publicity. It is great to see this hobby grow!

I don't know about the Mirror Lake Hollow box, but I do know there have been
a rash of boxes go missing. I encourage everyone to pay attention to how
they are replacing boxes-rehide better than you found, but in the same
spot!!

The newboxers list would be a great place to learn the ins and outs of this
wonderful hobby.

Out of seven I've found this week, three were clearly visable peeking
out of rocks or bark. No doubt well hidden before the freezing and
Winter winds takes it's toll. Things well hidden by follage and grass
in the Summer become real obvious by now.

I've noticed many places were very busy with folks wondering about in
this un-Winter like weather we are having this year. Some could be
easily found when placed too near firepits at camp grounds where folks
search the woods and find a box hidden under tempting firewood. Too
much cover can also tip off folks, "I wonder why there is a pile of
rocks here alone?"

First of all...WOOOHOOO another Columbus 'Boxer!!!! WELCOME!
Second...
We found the Mirror Lake boxes, but that was in Aug of 04.
Not many boxes stay hidden on OSU campus for very long. Especially around mirror lake. It is the most popular spot on campus. I would guess that it is no longer there.
If I remember correctly, the placer was not a Columbus local. They did not get a chance to check on it often.
